Lake Pipes, Limefires or whatever you want to call them.

I started with a nailhead flange, and an aftermarket Chevrolet big block kit.

I did not want the exhaust to follow any line on the car. Not the motor angle or the frame reveal. Sort of the "rebel" part of the motor. I also didn't want them to cover up more than necessary of the frame reveal. Maybe I am over thinking this, but I think overall angles, rake and stance is everything on a hot rod.

Since the nailhead has square ports, I had to make the round tubing conform.

Once we know where the tubes goes...

I can insert and mark the exit tubes to get the shape needed to follow the conical tube.

This would be hard to do otherwise.

Everything in place...

One last mock up before tacking them. I had no idea that my motorcycle lift would be some helpful while building this car.

I tapped out the tube to the edge for good flow and then welded them solid. I then leveled the weld, it will become the gasket surface.

There you go...that works.

End cap flange installed.

Now what to do with those ugly down tubes ??

I don't like to look of the down tube hanging like some schlang under the frame, so I ran the dump tube back inside the frame instead. I will attach a flange later.

Once the headers are coated I will paint the return tube black, or just make a cover for it, like this picture.

Going down the road or walking up to it you would not even see it.

I use an angle finder to make sure I duplicated the angles on the other side.

Looks good...if I may say so myself !

With the body off,  I can now continue the exhaust.

Good 'ol Smithy's are used for that "mellow tone" We will see how mellow it will get...

Here the limefires are back from performance coating. I had the block off plates done in black, for the illusion of open exhaust !

Using a felt pen, I blacked out the edge of the white gasket, so it doesn't "stick out" when the block off plates are installed.

Black block off plates "simulates" open exhaust...? What the heck do I know...we'll see...
