Gary Frenkel's

1959 Buick Convertible

Restored to it's former glory again

Gary from Michigan has owned this LeSabre Convertible since 1960. Gary and I traded information during our '59 Buick restorations, and it is my pleasure to introduce his final product. His goal was to cruise the famous Woodward Ave in Detroit. Did he ever! Gary opted for a "slightly" more powerful drive-train than the stock LeSabre motor. He installed a 401 c.i.d. out of a 1963 Wildcat, mild cam, balanced, blueprinted, Edelbrock dual quad manifold, dual exhaust and more.

Gary writes:

Just wanted to say hello and send you the latest photos on my 59 Buick.  It cruised Woodward Ave. in Detroit for this years Woodward Dream Cruise.  The grin on my face was wider than the grill as I cruised by 1.4 million spectators lining Woodward Ave.  on both sides of the street for 20 plus miles.  All this driving was done on 34 year old Uniroyal triple white wall tires that I had installed in 1966!  My wide white wall tires came from Coker Classic two days after the cruise ended.

I finally have got her tuned to perfection and managed to literally KICK MY SHARE OF ASS on this years cruise.  To say the least, I was grinning, smiling and finishing off my old tires with hole shots that would make any NAILHEAD enthusiast proud.  I still have a lot of work to do, mainly the same things I didn't do for the past 2 years, but sure had a blast this summer with her.

Looks like Gary doesn't need any Viagra, this is all he needs. Thanks Gary, for sharing your work with us. Keep the shiny side up!

UP-DATE Dec 2008:

Gary contact us with an up-date. He writes:

Hi Rolf. I was surprised and happy to see the sight back on line, or at least the Buick section. I hope you are doing well.

Thanks to you and have owned my 59 Buick convertible since 1960, which you posted on your site. I finally finished her in the summer of 2006 and being the spoiled brat that I am, was not satisfied with the 401 I put in her, so, out came the whole drive train and in went a 455 Buick big block out of a 72, with a turbo 400 trans with shift kit and stall converter and, of all things, a Ford 9 inch rear end to handle the torque.

If I mash my foot down, I can literally burn rubber for 50 feet, even leaving her in drive. She even scares me sometimes, but now she is everything I wanted and collects trophies all the time.

She even won a best of show at the famous Woodward Dream Cruise in 06 and gets more attention than 5 naked ladies at a Moose Lodge meeting. Attached is a couple of photo's.

Hope you are doing well and that you find the time to put the whole site back up one day. I know it's a lot of work, but it was a terrific place to visit, for us car nuts.

Gary, we are glad to get the Buick section up and running again, and to show off your car.

People can't get over the fact I've had her for 40 years.  Last night I attended my 40th high school reunion.  Cant believe time has passed so fast but right after my 1960 graduation, I bought my Buick.  To tell the truth, she is far more sexier today than back in the 60's.
