Tom Liddy's 1959
Buick Invicta
A close look at a 24,000 mile
Delta Wing Flyer
Tom Liddy visited our '59 Buick section, and
decided to share his winged beauty with us. The car
is a rust free Texas car with about 24.000 miles on
it and has factory A/C. It is mostly original,
except for a repaint and typical wear item
replacements.
Model 4637, the Invicta Two-Door Hardtop Coupe
was made in 11,451 examples. We don't think too many
are left in this condition. It was powered by a 401
V8.
Tom tells the story:
| The car was purchased new
from Lone Star Buick in Abilene TX in
December of 1958. The original woman that
owned it lived with her mother and was never
married. The car spent it's entire life in
TX with the exception of one trip to Las
Vegas sometime I believe in either 1959 or
early 60's, based on some receipts that show
the mileage. |

When the mother died
sometime in the late 80's the car was put in
the garage and never driven again. At some
time after the car was parked in the garage,
a teenager ran into the house and garage
with his car and did some minor damage to
the back end of the Buick. Best I can tell
is that it dented the rear bumper and left
tailfin.
When she had the car repaired, she
unfortunately decided to get it repainted.
The car was once again put back in the
garage, and never driven again.

Note the A/C outlet under the
radio
| The original owner passed
away in June of 2000. The car was passed on
to a woman that had taken care of the mother
at the time the mother died. Her husband was
not interested in the car, so it was
advertised for sale in Hemmings Motor News
in November of 2000. By the time I saw the
ad, it had already been sold to a collector
in Denver. I contacted him to see if he
would sell it and flew to Denver to inspect
the car in January 2001. |
